LADIES AND GENTLEMEN...ERIC CLAPTON: 20 WAYS TO PERFORM LAYLA

Layla is maybe the most famous song by Eric Clapton, written by Him and Jim Gordon during the “Derek and the Dominos” era.

It is surely one of the most “transformed” and performed during His career .

Here below You can find 20 clear examples: different arrangements, particular exhibitions and shows with Important Guests.

Maybe there could be others, but these are in my humble opinion absolutely relevant.

From “ Live in The Seventies” , Crossroads 2 Box Set.

This is a classic example about the way it was played in that period, without the “piano coda”.

5

1983,ARMS Concert. Seeing EC,Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page together makes the difference even if it surely wasn’t one of the best performances…

6

1985 Behind the Sun Tour, faster version with a touching introduction and “piano coda”.

7

1985 Epic, from Live Aid!!

8

9

1992 Unplugged, one of the most famous, completely acoustic and transformed in a shuffle…no piano coda.

10

1996
With Dr John, interesting arrangement,it is  probably similar to the original idea Eric had for the song.

11

1997
With Legends-the beautiful intro is  by Marcus Miller( “In a Sentimental Mood”).

12

1999 Madison Square Garden Concert with Sanborn and Friends.
